What is STIR/SHAKEN?

STIR/SHAKEN is a new technology framework introduced to reduce fraudulent robocalls.

When adopted, carriers validate and attest your numbers. The attestation helps carriers determine if a call should be labeled as ‘Caller Verified’ or ‘Potential Spam’.

For a legitimate organization, your contacts will see the ‘Caller Verified’ badge when you call them. Fraudsters that illegally spoof caller IDs are identified and blocked.

How does STIR/SHAKEN work?

You register for a STIR/SHAKEN attestation on CallHub [Settings > Compliance > SHAKEN/STIR] with details about your organization (including identifiers like your EIN number] and contact details. CallHub will submit this information to the carriers and get your number attested.

STIR/SHAKEN attestation levels

A-level attestation: Verifies caller identity and legitimate use of provided phone numbers for outgoing calls.

B-level attestation: Verifies caller identity but indicates uncertainty about their authorization to use specified phone numbers for calls.

C-level attestation, or Gateway Attestation: Applies when originating carriers can’t verify calls at A or B levels; often used for international calls.
